About Dr. Maria Chartzoulakis, DMD
My name is Doctor Maria Chartzoulakis. I come from a Greek family – Yes, kind of like the one in My Big Fat Greek Wedding! We are loud and social and love to dance and eat good food! In fact, when we cook we make enough for 100 people even if it is just the 10 of us. I absolutely love the work I do as a Prosthodontist.
I decided at 12 years old that I wanted to be a dentist. I know it’s crazy, right?! It started for me when my parents came to the US in 1970. They instilled the American Dream in me – to get a good education and make the most of all of my opportunities. And since my parents also had a lot of dental issues, I was in the dentist office a lot as a kid. Opportunity knocked!
So after graduating high school in Bayside, Queens I entered a 7 year joint degree program with Adelphi University in Long Island and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. I completed a BS while in dental school and then received my DMD from Tufts in 2004. I continued with a GPR at Montefiore Medical Center – getting a full taste of dentistry and realizing then that I wanted to be the very best in my field! I decided to become a specialist in Prosthodontics. In 2008 I completed the Tufts PG Prosthodontics program, and, because I believe in doing everything to the max, my Board certification in the winter of 2009.
Keeping up with dentistry technology has also been my big goal. Most procedures can now be done with digital dentistry. I have taken numerous courses to keep me up to date with newest systems out there. The positive in this is patient comfort. No more impression materials that leave a bad taste in your mouth or cause you to gag. Just an intraoral scanner that takes 1000 pictures per second. Has great results in not only making a restoration for your tooth, but also planning your treatment with predictability.

I enjoy working with people, educating them on something I am passionate about, and helping them improve their oral and general health. Its always rewarding when you see how you can make a positive impact on a patient.
In the coming year my goal is to continue to strengthen my hygiene skills and knowledge while growing with Dr. Chartz
I love spending time with my family playing games, doing crafts with my nieces and nephew, and cooking together. I also enjoy trying new restaurants and coffee shops with my friends and relaxing at home with my dog.
